Patriotism is NOT Racism
I'm a Kiwi living in Australia and I love this nation. This country was the one which accepted my wife and her family as refugees from internally warring Nicaragua when her 'foreign' father's life was under serious threat. After being chased out of the U.S.A. before finding brief respite in Canada, it was Australia that opened it's 'arms' to this family!
Monday was Australia Day. Personally I think the date should be changed to a time more significant to all Australians BUT that I understand is a heated debate topic that can be left for another time and for someone more educated than myself.
What I do want to make a brief point about however is the disgusting display of so-called 'Patriotism' by some Australians who thought that to honour this great nation they would get pissed and beat up on people of different ethnicities (i.e. different to their own). What they probably took in to consideration when determining who they would target was the colour of a persons skin. If it was based on culture or heritage differences only then what we would have had was mass anarchy because EVERYONE in this country is mixed blood.
My cousin was murdered in a race related incident and every day there are similar instances occuring. You'll almost NEVER find such a thing happening just because 1 white guy passes 1 black guy on the street. No it's always when 10 white guys pass 1 black guy or vice-versa. It's mob mentality spurred on by the presence and consumption of a helluva lot of alcohol.
What I'm trying to say here is this - If you want to get hammered and start fights, gang up on those more defenseless than you etc. Do it in the name of your own agendas! Call a Spade a Spade! Say "I AM A ALCOHOLIC RACIST TOOL!"
DON'T claim some sort of nobility by doing it in the name of your nation
