Nigel McTrustry is a Cigar box guitar playing Troubadour based in Brisbane and performs around Australia showcasing his hypnotic signature cigar box guitar (CBG) rhythms. Well crafted songs combine with the primal infectious tones of his hand crafted CBGs producing trance-like riffs and grooves. The sound and instrument has its roots both from the Deep South and Africa, home of the Blues. Nigel is at the forefront of the cigar box guitar revolution, taking the traditional sounds of the CBG and re-introducing them to a new audience in dynamic and modern ways. He performs regularly as a duo with percussionist, guitarist and vocalist Caroline Hammond. Their organic mix of acoustic guitar, cigar box guitars, djembe, Kahun, stomp, harmonica and diddley bow take folk/rock and traditional blues and roots into new territory. Cuban and African rhythms create a unique and funky sound that is different to anything else out on the music scene. Originally from Wollongong, a coastal city one hour south of Sydney, Nigel developed as a musician playing with his band at parties, in garages, lounge rooms, halls and pubs and became an important influence in the developing Wollongong music-scene. Twelve years of travelling the world with his backpack and guitar followed, where Nigel immersed himself into various cultures and music scenes. Nigel’s music and lyrics embrace the wild, raw integrity of his retro influences from early bluesmen to the great singer songwriters of the 60s and 70s. His first EP, ‘Excursions’, was recorded in Brisbane, Australia and captures his distinctive sound, which continues to evolve particularly with the introduction of the primal Cigar Box Guitar into his set. There's a revolution happening here people!
