Ok guys here is our problem we tryed to eneter the battle of the bands at the ivory in tweed heads.
We got knocked back because our music is not Commercial enough.

The IVORY TAVERN, Tweed Heads have asked me to help co-ordinate this year’s Aussie Day Weekend BATTLE OF THE BANDS, running right through the Saturday, Sunday & Monday of the Australia Day weekend!
$5,000 Prize Money to be won!!
1st PRIZE $3,500 Best Crowd Response plus
12 months gigs guaranteed at the Ivory Tavern!
SPOT PRIZES $500 for good a crowd response
On Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th January, from ‘Lunch til Late’, 8 or 9 bands per day will compete for the Best Crowd Response. The Top 3 bands from each day will then perform on Monday 26th, Australia Day for the Top Prize!
Style Of Music: Any
Set Length: 45 minutes (okay, 5 min extra if you inspire an encore!)
Age: All Ages (though minors must be accompanied by a senior)
P.A.s: Provided
Bookings: ‘Tally’ on 0421 108 353 (or myself)
So HURRY, as bookings are limited! Polish up your set list and step up for the opportunity that could put your band on the map! To clarify the heresay... that's right... The band that won called 'HELL & WHISKY', (a duo) the singer is a Chef at The Ivory but they deserved to win!! They had the "best crowd response" because they brought the bigggest, loudest crowd! (I don't know them i was there for another band) 2nd 'Dan Hannaford band' and 3rd 'CC The Cat' were not weekly perfromers but have gained regular work. Good on The Ivory for getting behind live music!!!!!!! That is all.

I'm sure that they did deserve to win. Though whenever there's a conflict of interest you have to
forgive people for raising an eyebrow.

Just tell em you play covers then enter and play what you want.
These sorts of things are allways a rip.
They get free live entertainment which bring there own crowds for weeks and make heaps of money selling ya mates overpriced drinks.
Tell me who wins??????????

Hi Guys,
Try our comp, it is starting this week. It is 100% definitely not rigged! Yes, fair enough the venues do make money from these competitions, but our drinks aren't over priced and you will have lots of fun. Judging is by the Smashed Crabs for the heats and there will be a different judging band for the final to ensure everyone feels at peace with the decision made (i.e not rigged!!!). The judging is 50% on Judges scores and 50% on crowd response. If you want to know more call me or email me and i can fill you in on all the details!

Hey guys....
Just reading the interesting and different points of view above so I thought I'd chuck in my 2 cents also.....
I think it's important to remember that local band comps are a great source for new bands to make contacts and network with others but to win a "comp" doesn't necessarily give your band a huge kickstart to stardom. Hard work will see your band get success, not a win in a "comp".
After reading the above comment by dm, sounds like the ivory are a bunch of pricks and are no benefit to your band anyways, so you should thank them for not wasting your time.
My advice would be to make some contacts with the venues putting on regular shows, get stuck into writing, rehearsing and recording. Do a heap of self promotion, start thinkin' about putting a tour together and stop worrying about some shit comp that doesn't want you to play!!
