Pierre Bensusan
French guitar virtuoso Pierre Bensusan makes his first visit to Australia in April of 2009, around his headlining appearance at the National Folk festival in Canberra.
Pierre has long been acknowledged as one of the finest guitarists on the planet, a fearless improviser who constantly explores the depth of his own voice in a way that transcends his instrument. After decades at the forefront of innovation on his instrument, Pierre continues to go from strength to strength - with the readers of Guitar Player Magazine USA voting him as "Best World Music Guitarist" in 2008.
If “world music” is music that pays tribute to the spirit of a collection of human beings through distinct rhythms, traditional instruments and harmonic colors, Pierre can be recognized as one of the most eloquent and diverse world musicians of our time. His solo concerts take the listener throughout the palette of emotions, between anxiety, serenity and deep joy, with compositions that often start with melodies inspired by various folk traditions. These ideas are developed into compositions of astonishing complexity, creating beautiful and sensuous sounds with a sense of orchestration that goes far beyond what is generally thought of as guitar music.
Peter Miller Support
Hailing from Queensland, fingerstyle guitarist Peter Miller plays a mix of solo and layered guitar pieces in various tunings, with a tasteful use of space.
“I believe music whether it has lyrics or not should be able to tell a story. To take the listener on a journey is such a privilege. I’ve had people come up after a show and say that’s just what I needed. Quite often live I like to play something new on the spot, it all adds so much to the performance.”
Peter has shared the stage with the likes of legendry Irish songwriter John Spillane who said of him ..."Peter Miller weaves a magic spell, do not listen too closely, cos you might get drawn in, and you might get taken away, and you might forget who you are."
A concert not to be missed, A night of truly unforgettable music
