Dropping of the Australian Music Quota for Digital Radio

The Australian Communications and Media Authority last month decided to exempt digital radio from the 25% Australian Music quota required to be filled by analogue stations.

The fact that a greater percentage of the Australian music being filled by existing commercial stations is older, already proven music (Chisel, AC/DC etc.) makes this revelation a little disturbing I think. With digital radio becoming increasingly popular shouldn't the powers that be want to exhaust every avenue when it comes to exposing new Australian music?

Thoughts?

More great decisions from our dickhead government!!!!!
Like it or not people still listen to the radio and while you may find that moronic, that medium still holds a lot of potential for any band trying to push through from the 'unknown' to the 'known' status. While I'm not a diehard radio listener, I do turn it on in the car and scan for worthy sounds. I'm not a moron and to say that radio is only for morons will exclude potential fans of your own music.

Every avenue available should be utilised to showcase local talent.
I actually don't in general listen to commercial radio (unless I'm scanning and chance upon a song I dig) but there are many potential fans who do. That's my point. I'll take any fans whether they are commercial radio listeners, non-commercial radio listeners, digi-radio listeners, cave dwellers whatever. I love making music so much that I want to make a living out of it.

Commercial stations don't in general play 'unknowns' but that's my second point. why shouldn't they? Especially artists local to that station. Hot 91 on the Sunshine Coast do it by placing said 'unknowns' in a mix of more popular artists. why can't other stations do the same?
